The health benefits of it!
Valerian is a plant native to Greece but also thrives in other countries across Europe, the USA, Canada, and Asia.
It can grow up to 1.5 meters, and its flowers are small, with a color ranging from white to pink. The root of the valerian plant contains the concentrated compounds responsible for its therapeutic properties.
Its taste is strong, dry, and slightly bitter.
The oils in valerian have a similar effect to benzodiazepines, a class of medications known for their calming, anti-anxiety, anticonvulsant, anesthetic, and muscle-relaxing properties. These medications are often used to provide short-term relief for conditions like severe anxiety or insomnia.
❗ Precautions
Valerian may have different effects on the body when used in combination with other medications.
It is important to exercise caution and avoid using valerian with any medication that affects the central nervous system, such as antidepressants, anticonvulsants, and antihistamines.
It should also be avoided if you are taking antifungal medications or drugs to lower cholesterol, as the liver releases certain enzymes to metabolize valerian, and these enzymes may alter the effects of these medications.
