During this festive period, where we all took time to rest and share beautiful moments with our loved ones, unfortunately, many had to stay at home due to illness from various viruses such as Covid-19 or H1N1.

In light of the high incidence of these viruses, we offer our readers a guide to herbs that are beneficial in managing such conditions:

Echinacea

One of the most important herbs of winter, known for its powerful antiviral and antibacterial properties. It is also considered a tonic, enhancing the body's defense system and supporting our immune system.

It is even used for combating infections. Many studies have shown that this herb can act against numerous viruses, including the common cold.

Dittany (Origanum Dictamnus)

Grown intensively in coastal lands, especially in Crete, Dittany is a very helpful herb for wound healing and also has significant properties in combating sore throats and colds.

In addition to these benefits, Dittany has antipyretic properties, effectively suppressing intermittent fever.

Linden (Tilia)

Known to everyone, linden is widely appreciated for its calming and analgesic properties. It is also effective in reducing cold symptoms such as runny nose, headaches, cough, and nasal congestion.

Linden is also suitable for treating high fever and digestive issues, which are often symptoms of viral infections.

Oregano

Oregano is one of the herbs rich in therapeutic substances for combating viruses. Specifically, oregano oil contains a chemical compound called carvacrol, which boosts the immune system and directly combats the bacteria and microbes to which the human body is exposed daily.

Furthermore, oregano is recommended for the treatment of various conditions such as bronchitis, allergies, and the common cold.

Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus is one of the most popular plants for treating respiratory infections. Its therapeutic properties are attributed to its leaves, which can significantly reduce the impact of inflammation on the respiratory tract.

Mallow

While known for its effective treatment of skin irritations, mallow is even more significant for its soothing and expectorant properties.

It can prevent productive coughing and immediately reduce severe nasal congestion. Additionally, it has strong antioxidant properties as its seeds contain mucilaginous substances that protect the cellular tissue.

Licorice

Licorice is one of the herbs with the strongest antiviral action. Research has shown that it can tackle viruses such as Streptococcus or the influenza virus.

It soothes a sore throat and combats shortness of breath and cough. Finally, it suppresses the synthesis of natural corticosteroids, contributing to its anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory effects.
