Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) is a perennial aromatic plant belonging to the Lamiaceae family, with delicate green leaves and small, discreet flowers. Its name is associated with the honeybee, as its flowers attract these valuable pollinators, while the characteristic lemony fragrance of its leaves has established it within the botanical and aromatic tradition.
This essential oil is produced through steam distillation of the leaves and aerial flowering parts of lemon balm. It imparts a fresh, lemony and gently sweet botanical aroma to cosmetic formulations, with bright green and subtly floral nuances. Its elegant aromatic signature gives finished formulations a clean, light and refined character.
Lemon balm essential oil in cosmetic formulations
Lemon balm essential oil is a 100% natural and highly concentrated botanical ingredient.
It is used at an appropriate and strictly controlled concentration as an ingredient in the professional manufacture of soaps, creams, lotions, balms, body butters and body oils, as well as hair and scalp care products. It gives finished formulations a fresh, lemony and subtly botanical aromatic profile.
Combinations in professional cosmetic formulations
In body oils and other anhydrous formulations, it may be incorporated at an appropriate concentration into sweet almond oil, jojoba oil or argan oil. These oils provide versatile bases that allow the fresh, lemony fragrance of lemon balm to stand out.
For soaps, solid balms and richer body formulations, it may be combined with coconut oil or calendula-infused oil, creating formulations with a bright, clean and refined aromatic character, always within the lowest permitted limit applicable to the specific finished-product category.
Use: This essential oil is intended exclusively for professional use as an aromatic raw material in the manufacture of cosmetic formulations. It is not a finished cosmetic product. Do not apply undiluted to the skin and do not ingest. The incorporation rate must be determined by the final product manufacturer in accordance with the lowest applicable limit, the technical documentation of the raw material and the safety assessment of the finished product.
