Peppermint (Mentha piperita) is a perennial aromatic plant with vibrant green leaves and a characteristically fresh fragrance. Its intense aroma has established it as one of the most recognisable plants in the world’s aromatic tradition.
This particular essential oil originates from India and is produced through steam distillation of the aerial parts of peppermint. It imparts an intense, fresh and characteristically menthol aroma to cosmetic formulations, with clean green and gently herbal notes. Its vibrant aromatic signature gives finished formulations a clean, fresh and dynamic character.
Peppermint essential oil in cosmetic formulations
Peppermint essential oil is a 100% natural, pure and highly concentrated botanical ingredient.
It is used at an appropriate and controlled concentration as an ingredient in the professional production of soaps, cleansing products, creams, lotions, balms, body butters, foot-care products and body oils, as well as in hair, scalp and beard-care formulations. It imparts a clean, refreshing and characteristically menthol aromatic profile to finished formulations.
Combinations in professional cosmetic formulations
In body oils and other anhydrous formulations, it may be incorporated at an appropriate concentration into sweet almond oil or jojoba oil. These versatile bases allow the refreshing aroma of peppermint to stand out.
For soaps, solid balms and richer body formulations, it may be combined with coconut oil or calendula-infused oil, creating formulations with a clean, fresh and dynamic aromatic character, always within the lowest applicable limit established for the respective category of finished product.
Use: The essential oil is intended exclusively for professional use as an aromatic raw material in the preparation of cosmetic formulations. It is not a finished cosmetic product. Do not apply undiluted to the skin and do not ingest. The appropriate incorporation rate must be determined by the final manufacturer in accordance with the lowest applicable limit, the technical documentation of the raw material and the safety assessment of the finished product.
