Clove (Syzygium aromaticum) comes from an evergreen tropical tree native to the Molucca Islands of Indonesia. Its aromatic leaves, buds and slender twigs are distinguished by their warm, spicy fragrance, which has established clove as an important part of the world’s aromatic tradition.
The essential oil is produced through steam distillation and rectification of the plant parts. It imparts a warm, rich and intensely spicy aroma to cosmetic formulations, with woody and subtly sweet notes. Its powerful aromatic signature gives finished formulations a deep, earthy and highly distinctive character.
Clove essential oil in cosmetic formulations
Clove essential oil is a 100% natural and concentrated botanical ingredient.
When incorporated at an appropriate concentration, it can be used as an ingredient in soaps, creams, lotions, balms, body butters and body oils, as well as in hair, scalp and beard-care formulations. It gives finished formulations a warm, spicy and woody aromatic profile.
Ideal combinations with carrier oils and herbal-infused oils
For body and massage oils, it can be combined with sweet almond oil, which provides a gentle and versatile base that allows the rich aroma of clove to unfold.
In hair, scalp and beard-care formulations, it combines beautifully with jojoba oil or argan oil. For soaps, solid balms and richer body formulations, it can be paired with coconut oil or calendula-infused oil, creating formulations with a warm and refined aromatic character.
Use: The essential oil is intended exclusively for professional use as an aromatic raw material in the preparation of cosmetic formulations. It is not a finished cosmetic product. Do not apply undiluted to the skin and do not ingest. The appropriate incorporation level must be determined by the final manufacturer in accordance with the technical specifications of the raw material and the safety assessment of the finished product.
