The clove tree (Syzygium aromaticum, syn. Eugenia caryophyllus) is an evergreen aromatic tree historically associated with Indonesia’s Spice Islands. In addition to its well-known flower buds, its richly aromatic leaves are used to produce an essential oil with an intense and distinctive aromatic identity.
Clove leaf essential oil gives cosmetic formulations a warm, spicy and deeply herbal aroma, with woody and subtly sweet notes. Its dynamic aromatic presence makes it a distinctive choice for natural formulations with a rich, earthy and commanding character.
Clove in modern cosmetology
As a cosmetic raw material, it can be incorporated into soaps, cleansing products, balms, body butters, body and massage oils, as well as aromatic hair and beard care formulations. It is particularly suitable for formulations in which a warm, spicy and woody aromatic profile is desired.
Ideal combinations with carrier oils and herbal infused oils
For body and massage oils, it can be combined with sweet almond oil, which provides a gentle and versatile base while allowing the distinctive aroma of clove to stand out.
In hair and beard care formulations, it blends beautifully with jojoba oil or argan oil. For soaps and solid balms, it can be combined with coconut oil, while together with calendula-infused oil, it creates a richer base with a warm and refined aromatic character.
Use: Intended for use as an ingredient in the manufacture of cosmetic products. The appropriate incorporation rate must be determined by the final product manufacturer according to the type of formulation, the technical specifications of the raw material and the safety assessment of the finished product.
