Wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens) is an aromatic evergreen plant with glossy green leaves and distinctive red berries. Its leaves are renowned for their powerful and highly recognisable fragrance.
The essential oil is obtained through the steam distillation of wintergreen leaves and imparts an intense, refreshing and sweetly balsamic aroma to cosmetic formulations, with clean and characteristic wintergreen notes. Its distinctive aromatic profile gives finished formulations a fresh, unique and invigorating character.
Wintergreen essential oil in cosmetic formulations
Wintergreen essential oil is a 100% natural and highly concentrated botanical ingredient, naturally rich in methyl salicylate.
It is used at a carefully determined concentration as an ingredient in the professional formulation of soaps, balms, creams, lotions and other body-care products. It imparts an intense, refreshing and sweetly balsamic aromatic profile to finished formulations.
Combinations in professional cosmetic formulations
As part of properly designed cosmetic formulations, it may be incorporated into bases containing sweet almond oil, jojoba oil or coconut oil. It may also be combined with arnica-infused oil in specialised body-care formulations, always in accordance with the technical specifications of the raw material and the safety assessment of the finished product.
Use: The essential oil is intended exclusively for professional use as an aromatic raw material in the preparation of cosmetic formulations. It is not a finished cosmetic product. Do not apply undiluted to the skin and do not ingest. Due to its high methyl salicylate content, the appropriate incorporation level must be determined by the final manufacturer in accordance with the technical specifications of the raw material, the applicable restrictions and the safety assessment of the finished product.
