Ylang-ylang (Cananga odorata) is an impressive evergreen tropical tree, known for its distinctive greenish-yellow flowers and their rich, intoxicating fragrance. Its name is often translated as “flower of flowers”, highlighting the special place it holds in the world’s aromatic tradition.
This essential oil is produced by steam distillation of ylang-ylang flowers. It imparts a rich, deeply floral and warm aroma to cosmetic formulations, with softly sweet, woody and subtly balsamic nuances. Its distinctive aromatic signature gives finished formulations an exotic, elegant and sensual character.
Ylang-ylang essential oil in cosmetic formulations
Ylang-ylang essential oil is a 100% pure, natural, unadulterated and highly concentrated botanical ingredient. According to the PDS, it contains no added antioxidants, colourants, preservatives or added fragrances.
It is used at an appropriate and strictly controlled concentration as an ingredient in the professional manufacture of perfumes, soaps, creams, lotions, balms, body butters and body oils, as well as hair, scalp and beard care products. It imparts a rich, floral and warm aromatic profile to finished formulations.
Combinations in professional cosmetic formulations
In body oils and other anhydrous formulations, it may be incorporated at an appropriate concentration into sweet almond oil, jojoba oil or argan oil. These oils provide versatile bases that allow the deep floral aroma of ylang-ylang to unfold.
For soaps, solid balms and richer body formulations, it may be combined with coconut oil or calendula-infused oil, creating formulations with an exotic and refined aromatic character, always within the lowest permitted limit applicable to the specific category of finished product.
Use: The essential oil is intended exclusively for professional use as an aromatic raw material in the preparation of cosmetic formulations. It is not a finished cosmetic product. Do not apply undiluted to the skin and do not ingest. The incorporation rate must be determined by the final manufacturer in accordance with the lowest applicable limit, the technical documentation of the raw material and the safety assessment of the finished product.
